Monday 27th November 2017.....'What a wonderful world'
Today in school, we had an inter-house activity day learning about lots of countries, in which we at Binsted, have some ties with. That is to say teachers, parents, children have spent time living in these countries or actually originate from them. Our houses of Amber, Emerald and Ruby had great fun doing a variety of activities, which included, food, dance, singing, painting, being creative with pasta and paper and collecting facts. Many photos and mini video clips were taken and children tried new foods and learnt some new words in varying languages. Scroll down to see some photos of the day. When you click on them, they will open out larger.
Amber House :
They had fun learning about Wales, Canada and Italy. The welsh anthem was sung, flags made, welsh cakes with maple syrup dip was received with much enthusiasm, facts from the countries were collected and placed into their own booklet and pasta pictures were created! Sticking their hand into red paint to create the maple leaf for the Canadian flag, was a definite hit!
Ruby house had a fantasic day. They all joined together from Reception to Year 6 to learn about four very different countries - Japan, Poland, Bangladesh and Philippines.
So much fun was had by all as they took part in different activities throughout the day. They made Polish biscuits, Origami animals, little Tarsiers out of card, flags from the different countries, moved and grooved with some Bangladeshi dancing, created their own fact sheets about the different countries and enjoyed some different playground games!
They were also very fortunate, as just before lunch, Safwan's mum brought in the most delicious banquet of Bangladeshi food for the children to share (luckily there was also enough for the teachers!) Whilst enjoying the food, the children all listened to Safwan and watched his brilliant powerpoint on Bangladesh (which is where is Grandfather was born). Please watch the presentation to learn lots of amazing facts.
In the afternoon, Ruby house had two lovely parents visit them to talk about their own countries. Iya's mum, who is from the Philippines, read a Filippino creation myth. Mila's mum, who is from Poland, read a story in Poilsh about an elephant. Thank you to our parents who helped make our 'World day' so special!
