The Sound Collector

A stranger came this morning,

Dressed in black and grey,

Put everything into a bag,

And carried it away. 

The ticking of a clock,

The crying of a baby, 

And the happy woofing from a dog.

The crashing of the waves,

The wailing of the police car,

And the banging of the the thunder when it comes from afar.

The miaow of a cat,

The hissing of a snake,

The crack of a baseball bat when it's about to break.

The whoosing of the water that the shower makes,

And the crack of an egg when it breaks into flakes.

A stranger called this morning, 

He didn't say his name,

But he left us only silence,

And now life is not the same.
