Week 2 10.1

Year R and 1

Write and draw a picture about something that you did on the weekend. Year 1s to write four sentences and Year Rs to draw a picture and label it (encourage your child to use their sounds, if they only write the initial sound, this is fine!)

Year R

Learn 'Little Miss Muffet' nursery rhyme. Draw a picture of it. Go on a spider hunt outside. How many spiders did you find? What do you know about spiders? Can you find out a new fact and share it with someone?

Year 1

What is a noun?

Watch Powerpoint on Nouns

Complete Activity sheet Noun Hunt (You do not need to print this off, you could just write it straight into your home learning book.)

Watch Michael Rosen perform 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' here

Join in with his actions!

Year R - draw your favourite part of the story and label it as an extra challenge

Year 1 - draw your favourite part of the story and write a sentence saying why you like it.  Remember capital letters, finger spaces and carefully sound out each word before you write it down.

Watch Michael Rosen again.  This time think about how each of the places would feel if you were really there.  Go outside in your garden and see if you can find some long, swishy grass or some squelchy mud, have you got a space in your house that is like the narrow, gloomy cave.  Choose one of the places that the family go through - snow storm, forest, mud, river, grass or cave and think of 5 words that could describe that place.  Year R can do this verbally and Year 1 can write these down and include one of the words in a sentence.

As part of our science topic we have been learning about senses.  Today choose either one of the places they walk through in 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt', or your own place that the family could walk through and think of something you would see, smell, touch, taste and hear in this place.  To help you could make a sensory box with some grass, water, and mud (or chocolate instant whip!) to help get that sensory experience.  Can you think of great words to describe each sense?
